Learning from Experience: Truth and Reconciliation Processes in the US

On December 10th, 2020 the Mary Hoch Center for Reconciliation will be hosting a webinar titled Learning from Experience: Truth & Reconciliation Processes in the US highlighting past truth commissions in the US. This event will be hosted by MHCR’s own Eduardo Gonzalez, a scholar and practitioner of reconciliation processes around the world.

The webinar will feature speakers from four previous Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) experiences: the Greensboro, North Carolina the Maine-Wabanaki TRC, the Truth-Telling Project, originally from Ferguson MO, and the North Carolina Commission of Inquiry on Torture. This event is aimed to support advocates across the United States who are in the process of designing or implementing truth and reconciliation commissions or similar initiatives. We hope that through this interactive event, we can discuss lessons learned, and create links with those who have already carried out truth commissions in the US, to promote successful new processes on reconciliation, justice, and healing.

Speakers

Rev. Nelson & Joyce Johnson- The Greensboro Experience

Esther Attean- The Maine Wabanaki Experience
